Clutches, totes, hand bags, shoulder bags, and messenger bags; bags can come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.  They can be casual or quite dressy.  Nothing though, dresses up a bag more than diamonds, instantly transforming it from a carrier to a piece of jewelry.  Stones of all sorts adorn a variety of bags, for both men and women.  However, mostly celebrities or high society are seen flaunting bags featuring actual diamonds. Here is a closer look at some of these sensational items.


Clutch:


Lana Marks creates one Cleopatra clutch every year. Made from metallic silver alligator skin, this Cleopatra clutch has a clasp made from 1,500 black and white diamonds set in 18kt white gold.   The alluring bag, worth $250,000, accompanied Actress Helen Miren at the 2007 Academy Awards. She was the chosen won that year to carry a handmade Lana Marks diamond studded clutch down the red carpet.


Tote:


The Gadino bag by Norwegian designer Hilde Palladino can fall into the tote category.  The bag features crocodile skin and 39 white diamonds carefully placed upon white gold clasps.


Shoulder Bag:


The Leiber Precious Rose Bag is shaped like a rose and studded with pink sapphires and diamonds. This to-die-for evening bag displays 1,016 diamonds.  In total there are 42.56 carats of diamonds and another 1,169 pink sapphires. Additionally, 800 tourmalines adorn the one-of-a-kind $92,000 bag.


Handbag:


At $1.63 million, this Ginza Tanaka diamond studded platinum handbag easily makes it one of the most expensive bags in the world. Japanese jewelry maker Ginza Tanaka designed this stunning piece of art. 2,182 diamonds, coming to a total of 208 carats, adorn this magnificent bag.  In addition to being a fabulous bag, the diamond strap is removable, turning it into a gorgeous necklace or bracelet.

Another impressive diamond handbag was the Hermes Birkin $1.9 million diamond-studded handbag.  The bracelet strapping of this bag features individually crafted diamonds and gemstones. The bag itself is crafted from gold.


Purse:


The Mouawad’s 1001 Nights Diamond Purse valued at $3.8 million dollars is a breathtaking heart-shaped bag made with colorless, yellow, and pink diamonds.  Named the most expensive designer handbag in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records, the purse is handcrafted from 18kt gold and features 4,517 diamonds.  4, 356 are colorless, 105 are yellow diamonds, and 56 are pink diamonds. The total carat weight is 381.92.  Ten artisans completed this project in 8,800 hours.


Bags are used for convenience, but they have also become fashion statements.  These bags have brought a whole new meaning to accessories.  Wearing diamond-studded bags is flashy, yet stylish and prestigious.  Those of us with the budget can take note of this trend, and those of us without it, can just dream.
