The Colorful 2015 Oscars
Best Actor? Best Movie? For many, the real question is, what was the biggest fashion trend on the Oscars’ red carpet? The most significant night in Hollywood tends to set the patterns and dominant looks for the coming year. At some award shows, a certain gemstone was seen more than anything else, while other events were dominated by a particular color. This year’s Oscars were dripping in stones, but not just from the stars’ jewelry pieces. A very trendy style seen on actresses, young and old, was the embedded dress. From pearls to Swarovski crystals, the already glamorous frocks were studded, sometimes in their entirety, with stones, transforming them into life-size jewels. If that weren’t enough, these celebrities also chose to accessorize with jewels from some of the world’s top jewelers, including pieces with extremely rare and precious stones.
This sensuous beauty is not only extremely talented but also knows how to always dress to kill. Her emerald green Atelier Versace dress had a bejeweled collar attached to her dress embedded with 2,000 Swarovski crystals! If that wasn’t eye-catching enough the blonde also sported the daring one earring trend, proudly displaying a floral-themed Piaget Mediterranean Garden drop earring with 5 pear-shaped emeralds, 278 brilliant-cut diamonds, 4 pear-shaped aquamarines, and 2 pear-shaped green tourmalines.
In the spirit of color, this classic actress wowed in a stunning turquoise, diamond, and aquamarine bib necklace from Tiffany & Co.'s BLue Book collection, which more than brought out her piercing blue eyes. The contrast of the necklace against her black velvet custom made John Galliano gown with thread silk chiffon details was especially striking.
Possibly one of the most talked about celebrities of the evening was the beautiful Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbie, whose gorgeous black Yves Saint Laurent dress was crowned by a gorgeous vintage Van Cleef & Arpels tassel Zip necklace, composed of 300 sapphires with an additional 150 diamonds on the yellow gold design. With her blonde hair parted to the side and sultry makeup, she did her character proud and was a vision to behold on the red carpet.
There is something truly spellbinding about Lupita Nyongo. Her beauty cannot be described in words: she simply exudes it. Therefore, practically everything she wears, simple or intricate, becomes an instant hint. This year’s Oscars attire consisted of a pearl studded gown. Yes, she literally wore her jewels, as clothing. A total of 6,000 pearls covered Lupita’s custom Calvin Klein Collection column gown. She chose colorless diamond Chopard drop earrings and statement rings to complete her look. Although her dress was stolen from her hotel room after the show, it was recovered 2 days later in the hotel bathroom, and it is being held by authorities until the situation is resolved.
Another adventurous celebrity who chose to bring some color to her jewels was Naomi Watts. The English actress donned a pair of a pair of ‘Modern Art Deco’ earrings, valued at $3 million, set with oval sapphires weighing over 50 carats and accented by purple sapphires and diamonds in 18k white gold, with the ‘Wallis Simpson’ bracelet featuring 385 diamonds weighing a total of 34.06 carats set in white gold, both by Anna Hu, to pair with her Armani Privé silver and black open backed dress.
Rita Ora wore $7.5 million worth of jewels to the red carpet, including a pair of Victorian-inspired Lorraine Schwartz 40-carat diamond drop earrings. She also boasted a beautiful 25-carat Bulgari champagne diamond ring to complete the look with her navy blue Marchesa corset mermaid style fishtail gown with gold leaf embroidery.
Reese certainly made up for not being present at last year's OScars with a gorgeous gown and one of the most noteworthy pieces of jewelry of the evening, a 3.03 ct blue diamond ring from Tiffany & Co. Her Tiffany & Co. earrings, rings, and bracelet rounded out the look of her Tom Ford black and white off-the-shoulder trumpet gown and smooth, sleek locks.
The Australian auburn beauty went with Harry Winston jewels, including her 82-carat caftan diamond bracelet. All of her jewels in total came to a whopping $7.2 million and went beautifully with her pale yellow Louis Vuitton reptilian sheath style dress.
Fifty Shades of Grey’s Dakota Johnson wore $2.2 million worth of Forevermark jewelry. A total of 100 carats of diamonds adorned the actress’s wrists and ears and looked beautiful with her bright red one shoulder Yves Saint Laurent dress and bold red lips.
It seems wrong to stop the list here as so many other stars shone in their phenomenal jewels and gowns. Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Anna Kendrick, and Faith Hill are just some additional big names that deserve a shout-out in terms of their appearance at the 2015 Oscars. As this summary comes to a close it is safe to say that the designers and jewelers do not cease to amaze us and they have most certainly provided these celebrities with the looks they deserve.
