Autumn is the Season of Color According to Christie’s New York Auction

The highlights of the Christie's New York Magnificent Jewels auction on October 15, are going to be three rare and magnificent natural fancy color diamonds in pink, blue, and yellow. This is the introductory auction to Christie’s fall season and will no doubt be a harbinger of colorful things to come.

The three stones (pictured below) include an 8.77 carat fancy intense pink diamond ring, with an estimate of between USD5.5 - 6.5 million, a 3.81 carat fancy vivid blue diamond ring, with an estimate of between USD2.5 - 3.5 million, and a 5.13 carat fancy vivid yellow diamond, with an estimate of between USD200,000 - USD300,000.

Not to be outdone, and perhaps looking to steal a march on its competitor, is the eminent auction house of Sotheby’s, which will be auctioning the Premier Blue (pictured below), a 7.59 carat fancy vivid blue diamond at its Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale in Hong Kong on October 7 – the 40th anniversary of Sotheby’s Hong Kong.

The Premier Blue is the largest round-brilliant cut, fancy vivid blue diamond ever graded by the Gemological Institute of America. It is anticipated that the internally flawless blue diamond will bring a world record price of USD19 million for a fancy vivid blue.

Quek Chin Yeow, Sotheby's deputy chairman, Asia, had this to say of the Premier Blue: “Sotheby’s has been entrusted with many important blue diamonds and holds the current per-carat price record for a Fancy Vivid blue diamond at auction . This Autumn we are thrilled to offer the Premier Blue, an unusually beautiful and rare treasure of round brilliant cut as well as Internally Flawless clarity. The Premier Blue, weighing 7.59 carats, is the world’s largest round Fancy Vivid blue diamond to appear at auction as well as the largest one ever graded by GIA.”

With these incredible diamonds up for auction and a little inter-auction house competition, Autumn may be a much hotter season than we usually experience.
