This has been a solid year for exceptional diamonds, and the color pink continues to shine considerably bright! The 16.08-carat ‘Sweet Josephine’ stone sold for $28.5 million, and there is a 15.38-carat vivid pink diamond that is going up for auction this May, estimated to go for over $30 million! A number of records have been broken, and others might just be surpassed in the near future. Let’s take a look at some of the most remarkable diamonds and gemstones we have seen in 2016.
15.38-Carat Vivid Pink Diamond
The largest fancy vivid pink pear-shaped ever to be auctioned will be available for purchase this May. At 15.38 carats, it is not the largest fancy vivid pink diamond to be auctioned, but rather the largest fancy vivid pink pear-shaped stone. Dubbed the ‘Unique Pink,’ the stone is a type IIa diamond that has an exceptionally pure structure. No wonder it has a pre-sale estimate of $28 million to $38 million.
Sweet Josephine
Recently, a Hong Kong bidder purchased two stones for his seven-year-old daughter Josephine. One of these stones is the Sweet Josephine diamond, a $28.5 million pink diamond. The 16.08-carat stone was called Sweet Josephine in honor of the gentleman's daughter.
Graff Pink
Although it no longer holds the title, the Graff Pink will always be remembered as having once been the bearer of the prestigious ‘Most Expensive Diamond’ title. The 24.78-carat pink diamond sold in 2010 for $46.2 million!
Pink Star
The Pink Star is an astonishing pink diamond that almost sold for $83.2 million in 2013, but the bidder defaulted its payment. Sotheby's still currently owns the stone.
Additional Stones
In addition to these recent and record-breaking pink stones, a number of other colored diamonds and gemstones have made headlines. For example, the 15-carat Jubilee Ruby, which just sold for $14.2 million, a large 12.03ct, oval, fancy vivid blue diamond which sold for $32 million, and Shirley Temple’s ring featuring a 9.54-carat blue diamond. There were a variety of remarkable gemstones that were showcased at Baselworld 2016.
Yes, it has been quite a year thus far, as has been the year leading up to it. The best part is that we are not even halfway through the year. At this rate we can expect to see many more impressive and significant gemstones in the jewelry sphere.
