Diamond-Embedded “Super Car” Speeds through Streets of Shanghai

If one would like to see some of the most magnificent cars in the world, the best places to go would probably be London, Los Angeles, New York, and Dubai. However, recently the city of Shanghai is on all car lovers minds, as a truly unique, not to mention extremely expensive, car was spotted racing through the streets of Shanghai.

A limited edition Lykan HyperSport was seen speeding through Shanghai and very quickly started a social media storm. The automobile appeared in the trailer for the upcoming film, Fast & Furious 7 and was photographed at the Shanghai Pundong International Airport. The photo went viral shortly after it was released on social media, due to the 420 15-carat diamonds that studded the luxury car’s headlights. The car, which was created by W Motors, will only be available for purchase for seven lucky buyers. Yes, nearly $15 million will get you an extremely rare sports car complete with a row of precious diamonds in its headlights.

This wasn't the first car that included diamonds as part of the design. Just a few years back Benny Steinmetz, the second richest diamantaire in the world, set a $300,000 diamond on a Jaguar racing car in Monaco. Only, that diamond was lost in a car accident at the race track! Either way, even before the accident, the car's value came nowhere close to the value of the Lykan HyperSport.

The Car

The word luxury has obvious denotations and connotations, which include all things lavish, superior, and reserved for the privileged, but try as it might, “luxury” cannot do this car justice as it is far more than simply a luxury car. The Lykan HyperSport has a maximum speed of 385 kilometers an hour, is powered by a twin-turbo flat-six 3.7 liter engine, and has the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.8 seconds. However, as extraordinary as these elements are, they are not the main attraction of the elegant car. Though there have been vehicles known to be embellished here and there with diamonds and other precious stones, it is highly unusual to have a car’s headlights embedded with a row of diamonds. Yet this car has just that, and not just diamonds, but 420 of them! Best of all, the buyer can have the stones customized according to his or her liking and have the diamonds replaced with other precious stones such as yellow diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, and rubies.

Why Was the Car in Shanghai?

It is uncertain as to why this fascinating car was in Shanghai. It could be part of the movie’s promotion, and it could also be W Motors’ way of getting the word out there about this ultra-luxurious car. Some claim it was just some rich local’s way of showing off his or her wealth. Either way, it has certainly succeeded in getting the world’s attention both in terms of the incredible components of the car as well as the regal stones that adorn it.

This may not be the first diamond car ever, as there was a Mercedes completely covered in stones, which belonged to a wealthy Saudi Arabian, but it most definitely makes the list of most expensive and most extravagant cars. The combination of speed and natural beauty is a definite win-win, even if you aren’t an exclusive diamond or car enthusiast.
