My Tax Refund Came... Now What?

We all know April is when all individuals in North America and in other countries will file their tax return. Some lucky ones will get a small refund. Some lucky ones will have to pay a small amount. And some really lucky ones will get a substantial amount back for a number of reasons.

We all ask the same question; what do I do with my refund?

The IRS claims that the average refund for 3 out of 4 Americans will be around $2900. Just Google the words “what to do with my tax refund” and see how much advice you get. In fact, most headings will say “how to spend your tax refund”.

Why spend it.

If you never had it, the smartest thing to do is invest it; but where? How much? Naturally I would say invest it in a diamond. It’s my business.

Some will claim that $2900 is not that much to invest, we might as well spend it on a trip, clothes, or the new Watch available from Apple. So I decided to investigate our own inventory with over 1200 of diamonds currently available (new daily stones are added) and see if I can find a suitable starter investment grade diamond. I narrowed the price between $2500 and $5000, The amount of money that you are probably playing with the ideas of what to do with.

Once narrowed to the range of price, I got 270 stones available. I then proceeded to narrow down the specific color depths of Intense and Vivid. The search narrowed it down to 43 diamonds. As suspected mostly were in the yellow/orange and pink hues, and 1 blue. I was surprised to see what we had an affordable blue intense diamond in the range.

After carefully reviewing all 43 diamonds, I concluded that only 26 are suitable as a first stone to be included in the portfolio. All 26 had pure hues, without secondary color (except for the pinks, where it is ok to have due to rarity of pink diamonds).
