What to Look for When Buying a Wedding Ring

Looking for wedding rings can be exciting, but it can also be daunting. Once you have your engagement ring you should more or less have an idea of what kind of wedding ring you’d like to have but it can get a bit complicated if you want it to really match your engagement ring or if what you had in mind will overpower the engagement ring or vice versa. Therefore, there are a few things to keep in mind while looking for a wedding ring, and a few general suggestions and tips regarding wedding band shopping.

Engagement Ring and Wedding Ring Sets

Many brides-to-be are unaware that engagement ring and wedding ring sets exist and can alleviate a lot of stress by providing you with a one-stop-shop when it comes to rings. Whether you were unaware of this concept, or overlooked it for whatever reason, you don’t have to worry. You can still get something similar to your engagement ring, although it may not match as perfectly as some other sets available.

Look for a Ring that Complements Your Engagement Ring

Planning on wearing your rings together? Then you should definitely be after a wedding band that complements your engagement ring. You may love the idea of a diamond-studded band, but if your engagement ring is already over-the-top, or if you have a very simple engagement ring, you may want to rethink this idea. Each ring should look fabulous on its own, especially if you plan on wearing them separately, but they also need to go really well together. That may mean toning it down a bit, or going for a specific color.

Be Practical

While engagement rings are sometimes left at home because they are so extravagant and expensive, and can get in the way, wedding rings are almost always worn all of the time. After all, that is the point of the ring. That’s why you need to make sure your ring is practical. You will be working, shopping, sleeping, and exercising with this ring so make sure it is comfortable and convenient.

To Each His and Her Own

Getting matching wedding bands is a cute idea, but you might have very different notions of what the perfect wedding ring is. Don’t go for that yellow gold band just because that’s the metal color he prefers. There’s nothing wrong with you each having your own unique ring that displays your individual personality.

In the end of the day, your ring needs to bring you happiness but it also needs to be realistic and within budget. Don’t feel the need to get “what everyone else is getting.” You can feel free to be bold, but also remember not to get carried away because this ring will hopefully be with you for many years to come. That’s not to say that you can’t change it or even exchange it for a different one somewhere down the line, but there is something to wearing the original wedding band for your entire life. Sometimes simple and practical is best, but the addition of a little bling never hurts. You will always have your engagement ring and other rings to tell your story. Let your wedding band be your eternal sign of your commitment to your partner at all times.
