LOGISTICS MANAGER, AKA "FIRST LADY" OF LEIBISH
My mother, Betty, was a very classy lady. She was the epitome of charm and elegance and very well liked by everyone. My mom was also quite the social butterfly, and had a real bubbly and friendly personality. Back in 2001, my mother was diagnosed with a terribly debilitating illness called MSA (Multiple System Atrophy), and it became excruciating to witness this once strong and vivacious woman slowly wither away.

One of the things I always admired about my mother is that she always kept a positive outlook and continued to enchant us until she could physically no longer continue to do so. As my mother always loved jewelry and owned some incredible pieces, I wanted to create something inspired by a pair of diamond earrings that she often wore. Since my mother had bright and sparkling blue eyes, I chose blue aquamarines for the center stones. Working together with my daughter, our Jewelry Designer, Chavi, we wanted to find a way to make these earrings really special and unique. I loved the idea of a shooting star, and so we surrounded the center stones with an explosion of beautiful colorless diamonds. These lovely and unique earrings are a perfect tribute to my late mother – precious, beautiful, and gone far too soon.

Growing up, I always admired my aunt Edna. She is one of the happiest women that I know and simply radiates joy and life! She married the love of her life in her early twenties, and like most newlyweds, she dreamed of becoming a mother and building a family.

Unfortunately, this dream never came to fruition, and no matter how much pain she was feeling inside, she always had a smile on her face and showered her nieces and nephews with love and adoration. Throughout her professional career she worked in the heart of the diamond district in Manhattan's 47th Street, selling diamonds, pearls and jewelry. Her passion for precious stones and design inspired me to follow in her footsteps in my own way, through visual communication and photography.

Recently, after her husband passed away, my aunt Edna gave me her engagement ring. It was a piece that I always loved and had a very unique design which was unlike any other traditional engagement ring I had seen. This ring featured a ruby center stone with a staggered diamond halo comprised of different shapes and sizes. When I wear her ring I am reminded of her strength of character, her vivacious personality and her incredible individuality. Inspired by my aunt, I worked with our design team to create this one-of-a-kind ring in her honor. It is my hope that the person who wears this ring will always feel inspired, empowered and loved, just as my aunt makes me feel every day.

While there are many inspirational women in my life, when I was asked to choose one, I immediately thought of my late neighbor, Ruth. She was a sweet and kind elderly lady and a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp. Ruth didn't like to speak much about her experience in the camps, but when she did – I was riveted.

When the war ended, Ruth made her way back to her home in Berlin and tried to rebuild her life from the shattered remnants that remained. She told me that one of the first things she did was save up her money to buy herself a piece of jewelry. It was a simple gold ring; nothing extravagant, but to her it was symbolic of so much more. The Nazi's took everything from her; her family, her friends, her innocence, her youth…. This ring reminded her that no matter what she went through, she would never allow them to steal her femininity. I wanted to create this beautiful ring, in her memory. Choosing a Chameleon diamond for the center stone seemed fitting since when it is placed in darkness, or heated, it changes color, but when back in natural lighting and regular temperatures – it returns to its "normal" state. I also felt that the sweet pink diamond side stones, are the perfect tribute to her femininity. This ring reminds me that no matter what challenges and hardships a woman encounters, within her she contains the power to overcome and stay true to her essence.

"Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness." - Oprah Winfrey.

Women face challenges every day, at home, at work, with friends, within themselves... Challenges are a part of life and living, and failure comes along with the territory. For me, real inspiration is when one gets up and keeps pushing forward. I am in awe of the power of women, the impact they have on their friends, their families and each other.

This bracelet is a symbol of this power. I chose to set two bright yellow diamonds in the shape of a butterfly, representing the freedom to fly, to chase after our dreams, to follow our passions, and to soar high towards our goals. There may be storms along the way, winds trying to break us... days you want nothing more than to give up... But it is in those moments that we can choose to fall, or we can choose to remember G-d gave us those wings; all we have to do is keep flying.

About nine months ago, at the ripe age of 96, my sweet grandmother and personal hero, Lisel, passed away. A teenage survivor of the Holocaust, Lisel managed to pick up the shattered pieces of her life and created a beautiful and fulfilling life together with my grandfather.

Sometimes it amazes me that out of the depths of hate and intolerance blossomed our large and loving family… When I think of my grandmother, the word "Lioness" comes to mind. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out, as well as fierce and vivacious.

Despite the atrocities she endured in her youth, she always chose to see the boundless beauty and joy in this world. One thing that always brought a smile to her face was seeing the gorgeous colors of fresh flowers. It is this love of hers that inspired this special ring. Featuring yellow, pink and green color tones, this piece reminds me of the springtime when flowers are blooming and there is a feeling of birth and renewal in the air. For me, this floral ring design is the perfect way to honor my grandmother's life and legacy.

As a child I used to love snuggling up beside my grandmother, cozy in her arms, with her soft hands holding mine. I used to trace my little fingers over the protruding veins on the tops of her hands and wonder when I would be old enough for my hands to look the same way. This was my safe place; one where I knew that I will always be loved unconditionally…

When I was in the 6th grade my world was turned upside down when my grandmother was critically injured in a tragic car accident, leaving her with severe brain damage and partially paralyzed. She never did recover, and passed away a year later.

A world of memories, such as me standing on the step-stool, beside her at the sink washing dishes, (she would wash, I would dry), licking frosting off the beaters while she iced her signature angel food cake, family picnics at the park, summers spent at the lake, swimming and basking in the sunshine… all these and more still live vividly in my mind.

My grandmother, Jeannie, was someone who always took great pride in her appearance and was always wearing beautiful and sparkly jewelry. In her honor, I wanted to work with colors that evoke feelings of life and vitality, while at the same time, are calming and soothing. For me, these earrings which showcase vibrant green tourmaline center stones surrounded by a halo of colorless marquise and round diamonds, express these feelings and are a tribute the legacy she has left behind.
