The night of the Oscars 2011. When all the stars come out, all dressed up, from head to toe; not a detail missed. All over the globe, individuals are glued to their televisions, not only to find out who the winner in each nominee category is, but also to see what their favorite stars are wearing, how they have their hair done, and which designer has lent them their glamorous jewelry. Tonight is the 84th Academy Awards, otherwise known as the Oscars. It’s all about the red carpet, and it’s about to happen. Before it does, let’s take a look back at last year’s Oscars, as well as other award shows, and muse about this year’s possible jewelry trends.
Last year statement jewelry was big at the Oscars. The starlets flaunted their colorful jewelry like a peacock struts its stuff. From Gwyneth Paltrow and her matching statement brooch and earrings to Scarlett Johansson and her dragon styled ring, there were many interesting, eye-catching pieces making their rounds. The colored diamond trend has been spreading like fire, so we will surely see more color this year, possibly in the form of colored diamond statement jewelry.
We have got to hand it to Angelina Jolie and her fabulous sense of taste. She never ceases to amaze us. One of her more memorable fashion moments was the pair of emerald earrings she wore to the 81st Academy Awards. An attempt was made last year by Reese Witherspoon to imitate the look, and although she looked fantastic, she was no Angelina Jolie. Nevertheless, the color green was prominent at last year’s awards show, but this year, with blue being so in fashion, we might be seeing more blue colored gemstones and less green. We might even get lucky and see some rare blue diamonds.
Either diamond necklaces or exotic metals leave a very strong impression, especially if they are thick, heavy, statement necklaces. We saw less of these at last year’s Oscars, and it looks like the trend of the missing necklace will continue, with stars focusing on their earrings, bracelets, and rings. With a bare neck, one’s attention is directed at the dress, which is an essential part of the evening.
Diamonds are everywhere on the red carpet, including on bracelets. A trend we saw much of in the recent past is double bracelets. This is something we might see more of, since, although less is more, a girl can never have enough diamonds. If done right, a couple of diamond bracelets, whether colored or white, can look classy and not at all overdone.

Diamond studs are always seen on the red carpet, though unless combined with an impressive necklace, ring, or bracelet, can be playing it safe. Celebrities go nuts over colored diamond earrings, but, many stick with studs made from various fancy colors. Color puts a slight twist on the classic studs, and is far more interesting. The colored studs trend could be something we see more of this year, especially some of the more popular colors such as pink, yellow, and black diamond stud earrings.
It is always exciting when the Oscars are right around the corner. Though the show takes place every year, the nominations are always different, as are the dresses and jewelry that the celebrities display. The styles, colors, and materials these stars choose become staples in many of our wardrobes as well as inspiration for our next piece of jewelry. We will be sure to look out for the best, the worst, and the absolute must-have looks.
